Well, I thought I was going to have sort of a chill evening. I had drinks with a MySpace friend for a bit and was walking home when my phone rang to meet up with friends over at Dallas Nightclub. After a few Tuaca's I ended up on the mechanical bull. Kevin, whose birthday it was, demanded we all have our turns.

Fun software I am trying...

Well, I tried MSN's and Google's Virtual Earth software programs where you can see satellite footage for pretty much anywhere. I really like Google's. Had a lot of fun over at El Arroyo the other day with it. The staff kept asking me to look up addresses so they could see what areas they grew up in changed or where they lived to see if their car was there when the picture was shot. You can check Google's out here and MSN's here.

I was IMing someone I work with and she had asked me about what browsers I use. Firefox and Explorer is what is on my laptop right now. She talked about this browser I haven't heard many people use called Avant Browser. I like it. The formatting issues on some pages Firefox would mess up look great, and it is pretty simple to use. You can find out more about that here.

This pic makes me laugh as I have no idea what the hell I am looking at. This was taken back in March during SXSW at Red Bul House.

The week is not moving...

Or it seems like it isn't. I can't wait for Saturday. I don't know why but I am excited for it. I definitely need to have some friend time this evening as I can't wait for two days to pass. I have been enjoying the Halo again. Love the Halo.

Oh, and I just finished watching all of season one of The OC. Can't wait to rewatch the second season when it comes out in a month. Hey, don't judge me.. It's my new Melrose Place.

Damn Keys...

I lose keys all the time. It is so bad that a good friend of mine gave me a key finder for my brithday. I have found my normal keys, but if you lend me a key, I will lose it. Tonite it was the key to the apartment complex clubroom that I needed for an event I was doing for them. Hopefully it will turn up. Good thing one of the managers was around to let me in. I am in so much trouble.

Update:
The key was found!!

So this is Lance Armstrong's bar in Austin, named SIX.. It just opened up last week. Are they going toname it SEVEN now? Ha, they should put a big red X over it and put a 7 next to it.

Let it go to voicemail...

Last night I didn't feel like interacting with the world. I put the cell phones on silent, made a nice snack for myself, and watched a few episodes of the first season of The OC. Around 11 or so, I got up to get a glass of water, noticing I had a couple missed calls. Caitlin, a girl I know, wanted to go to Dallas and didn't want to go on her own. I I reluctantly agreed to go. One thing about Caitlin, as sweet as she can be at times, drama and her go hand in hand. It requires a lot of energy to hang out with her.

So I go.

As soon as I arrive, friends of mine who were there, invited me to go downtown with them. But I had decided to go to the bar with Caitlin so I decline. I hang out there and let Caitlin do her thing.

Near the end of the night I see her and some friends of hers collecting their things and start heading for the front door. She was just going to leave me there, not even saying goodbye.

After she left, I stood at the bar, tilted back the Lonestar to my lips, and swallowed the last sip of cold beer and smiled.

That is what voicemail is for...

I am an idiot...

Last night I went out to answer the call from Josh, a friend of mine, who happens to bartend at SOHO. This leads to the Ritz, Headhunters, Lavaca Street, and others. Crown on the rocks, Tuaca, and Lonestar were with me the entire night. Ran into a lot of peoples. Always good times.

I prefer going out on my own and meeting up rather than going in a group. Do you find that in groups that you spend more time deciding on where to go rather than actually going into a bar? I can't stand being in a committee. Wanna go here? How 'bout there? Why not there? IT DRIVES ME NUTS!!! Pick a place people! So much more fun running into people, I love the randomness.

But why am I an idiot. Well, besides my big mouth, this time it was what almost happened. When I woke up this morning, I couldn't find my iPod shuffle. I was like WTF... Where the hell is it? I left for work this morning with the assumption it was lost in the cab ride home. After work, I happened to find it under a shoe, and a big shoe at that. Idiot.. (say it like Napoleon Dynamite)

Samantha is pinching my behind...

Julianna and I being silly...

yeah.. I am that cool...

Losering...

I have been going out all week. In a nutshell having a birthday month. It has definately been a different week. The project I have been working on with an Austin startup magazine I pulled the plug on. It was unfortunate, but it needed to happen as the entity can't seem to keep it together. I didn't want anything I set up to fail due to their issues. Anyone who unleashes their logo on the public by charging their friends ten bucks so the owner can have spending money on her trip to California is just something I couldn't be a part of.

In other news, I had drinks with Cyminda, who is a friend of mine at one of my favorite hangs - Barfly's. Just a great place to get a 'happy meal' and listen to great music on the jukebox. a happy meal is a Lonestar and a shot of Jagermeister) I ran into Heather, a friend of friends, and her new guy there also. Come to find out she 'recycled' him from their circle. Didn't even recognize him.

Good times...

One long week...

Well, my week isn't getting any shorter yet. It's the weekend and that means work. I have been working on Project FFF all week and it is coming together. I will give details on how to be part of the fun on FFF.

On another note, I have been getting into podcasting since iTunes has made it so easy for me to subscribe to them. I love the Dawn and Drew show. I just find it funny. No particular reason either. I really like having my iPod shuffle. It is so light and easy to use. I used it to DJ my Napoleon Dynamite Prom and it turned out great! My next purchase is a portable hard drive.

I don't know why I am up so early after last night, but, here is a picture of the prom. It was a blast!!!

So I finally chose...

It is a bittersweet enjoyment with today's events, but after much thinking, I got the iPod shuffle. It's tiny, light, and simple. It sounded better than what I had imagined. Definitely a good purchase. Now to look at accessories for it.. I like the water resistant sport lanyard.

Where will this take us???

London. I was in shock at what happened today. What's next? Is this over? Will there be more attacks? Who will we counter-attack? Unbelievable.

Busy Tuesday...

I had a very busy Tuesday. Worked on flyers and suck for the apartment complex, then in the evening was at 3 different venues for an event I am planning. Me tired. Big time. Working all day, but going to Dallas and Lala's tonite. If you want in you know how to get ahold of me.

So is the end of the world coming???

On July 3rd, NASA is hitting a comet with a projectile. Now I have to wonder, are we getting ready for the world to end by comet? I am going to start stocking up on Lonestar and Cheese Puffs. You can read a story on it here...
Melancholy is the new black...

I just watched a movie that for some unrelated reason resurfaced some memories I had completely forgotten about. More of a moment than a memory.

I remember the evening, walking from a show I had seen with someone, recalling the smell and sounds as we walked back to the car. I hear the shoes she wore as we walk across concrete, then asphalt, to cross a road. I can smell the soap she purchased when she was on a trip as she presses her hand into mine as we walk. And I remember her smiling.

It amazes me sometimes how we can get lost in our lives with the details that are required of us. Those details that cause us to forget certain moments of time. That memory is a couple years old from a past that is completely forgotten and done with. Well, not forgotten, but definitely a closed chapter. It first saddened me for a moment when it came to mind. The kind of sadness that you feel when think of something you lost or broke as a child. But the sorrow departed quickly when I remembered the rest of the evening that went with it.

And that was why I was smiling as I wrote this. It was one of my favorite memories of that moment in my life...

So last night...

I had to work. Fun. Yay me. It actually wasn't too bad. I am just ready for the next phase of my life to take off so I will not have to work for anyone other than myself.

But I met Caitlin, Katherine, Joanna, and the rest of the cast I see on Wednesdays at Dallas Nightclub for the last hour for some fun. Dear god Katherine, do not shoot 151 anymore. It doesn't help any of us at 2am.

I have to wash the vomit off my shoes. Oh, and it isn't mine...

This is my friend Shanna's talisman against creepy guys. She calls it bugspray. I thought it was the funniest thing I ever heard. She just explained that guys won't leave her alone sometimes, so its her safety net if she needs an out. Crafty girl Miss Shanna is...

So is the new happy hour 1pm for single moms?

I guess growing up in an alcoholice family has made me notice things like that. One of the neighbors is a single mom and I have yet to see her without a beer in her hand while she is outside her apartment. Mom and daughter were sitting in some shade, the mother drinking a beer, and the daughter eating chocolate chip cookies. A couple years ago, officers were called numerous times to their apartment for disturbances. The daughter seems to find her only joy in the cats she takes care of. And now one of them is missing. Too bad mom can't put down he beer and help her look for it.

Oh the memories of summer.

Seven strangers picked to make Austin look like...

Ok, give me a break Bunim-Murray... Cowboy hats and boots for everyone who comes to Austin? These yahoo's were worried that the job they were going to have was going to be working at a farm or a rodeo.

A clue people. There are no rodeo's or farms in Austin!! Not one. Dell builds computers here. Motorola builds processors here. AMD designs the next generation of computing here.

And it is the music capitol of the world.

If they make Austin look like a joke... This is my home, and I love it here.
I love it when a plan comes together...

Or unravels before your very eyes. It is kind of amusing at times watching things unfold. But, I think that the project I am on will do well. If the company doing this sticks to a vision and doesn't stray from the path it can only be amazing. It is great to see so much energy and passion in an idea. I hope it doesn't die before their event launches.

This is awesome.. I love vintage Vespas.. For 10 grand I can have it... Anyone have 10 grand for me?

Sunday is for...

Well, after last night, it was time to chill at Casa John. After a not so spectacular afternoon at work I headed home, enjoyed some ice cream, and Entourage. I really love that show. It wil get me through the summer without any new OC's.

I can say I am really exhausted. But, I have one hell of a week to go. Not going to do anything for the 4th this year. It has been more of a pain in the ass than anything noteworthy.

I have a meeting tomorrow night about the project. It will be nice to meet everyone involved.

Linda is happy to see me. Acually she is really hppy to be seeing SPOON! But I like my other answer.
A SPOONful of music and fun...

Spoon rocks. Spoon and many lonestars rock even more. And I spent 10 bucks. Rawk! Linda was there and it was great to see her as it has been almost 2 years since our last meeting.

I ran into a ton of people I knew at the show. Good times.

Ended up going to Kevin's house for Cara and Janni's birthdays. Got to bed at 6am. Good times to the second power...

SPOON tonite...

One of Austin's own returns tonite after a long tour. Spoon, one of my favorite bands, plays at Stubb's tonite and I will be there.

My good friend Linda, who also turned me on to this band, is back for a visit after a year long trip around the world. It will be good to see her!

Its that time of year to help out again. I am doing the Sunshine Kids Lake Travis excursion once again on July 9.

An interesting venture...

I was asked to help on a very interesting venture. I will tell more as it is pretty exciting as the details become solidified. To be on the safe side, I would clear your calendars on September 8-10 if you live in Austin.

I promise more on this later...

It is definately summer...

It is going three weeks of 90 degrees or higher. I wish it would rain a little. I would love to go to the Greenbelt with the dog and have a nice relaxing afternoon. I really need to spend a day at the Barton Springs runoff. Who knew it could get this hot for so long so soon.

I need a day at the pool.

I am going to make it look just like that...
Oh it is going to happen...

Napolean Dynamite Prom. On my birthday. At Lala's Lil' Nugget. I can't wait to see everyone in poofy sleeves.

Email me at john.muehlbauer@gmail.com if you want the evite.

Scrub a dub...

I had no idea my bathroom had a white tub. Well, I did, and now it is back to gleaming white. Very busy week ahead. My friend Dana has friend in town from California, and I am going to show them Dallas Nightclub in all its glory.

Linda, one of my favorite people in the world is back after a year plus tour of the world. I can't wait to see her! Plus, Spoon, one of our favorite bands is playing Saturday.

I have to find time for work in here sometime, as I gotta make a lot of $$$ this week.

He's me... I'm him...

Remember that line from Sixteen Candles? It kind of fits me at this point of my life. I look around and I just can't believe the mess created by me. Not just in the physical sense, but in the psychological also.

Over the last couple years it seems I am really angry at something. I don't know what it is,but denying it at this point would be fruitless. This anger has cost me many things. Now I am not talking of some Hulk-like rage that causes me to terrorize, but more of a passive-aggressive manor that seems to manifest itself when I least expect it to.

A comment here, a comment there... I leave my mark. Belittlement has become an artform. I really need to fix this...

Friday, June 17, 2005

So, what are you doing later...

I decided to stay in tonite. Not that big a deal, as I had some fun during the week, but tonite I wasn't feeling it. Earlier I was talking to my friend Nikki online, and she is in the midst of what some may term as a tumultuous scenario. Dating. What about it isn't tumultuous?

My last 'big' relationship was filled with it. Was it me or the situation? Most would probably say me, and I would be one of them. What makes us make relationships 'work'?

We all work on ourselves and our relationships, but, when did it relationships become work. It is not about putting forth the effort. However, is a relationship supposed to be a menial task?

So many friends are in the middle of what I can only deem as hopeless situations. One likes the other, the other likes them only after the bar closes, and someone feels slighted. Can you blame them? Is either of them at fault?

Remember the first crush you had? Mine was Amanda Lemke, who was in my first grade class, and she was the most beautiful girl you could imagine. I really liked her. So I gave her a little red plastic heart so she would know I liked her.

Now she lost that heart later that day, and she told me since she didn't have it, I couldn't play with her at recess.

I didn't remember this story until a few hours ago, as I found a little red heart laying on the ground. I smiled as picked it up. A little girl came running to me, said it was hers, and I placed it in her hand. Her face lit up as she ran back to her parents with her precious cargo protected by her in her tiny cupped hands.

She may lose that one again, but its the excitement of having it that makes us fight the battles to find ours. Amanda taught me the first in many lessons of dating.

You have to being willing to lose something in order to find it...
Live, reporting from the scene...

I was minding my own business, IM'ing at the pool, when some of the other neighbors carried in a small BBQ grill. I am still amazed at what didn't happen.

Watching this guy try to get it started has made me realize that leaving my apartment without my camera is always a mistake. Leaning over it, he loads the charcoal and takes the bottle of lighting fluid and prepares to make dinner for his group. He grabs the lighter and voila! FIRE!!

And then it goes out. He lights it again. FIRE!! It dies down a bit. But, before it is about to go out, he grabs the bottle of fluid and squirts it right at the flames. As the fireball engulfs the grill, our MENSA award winner proudly stands over his creation. He has created fire! He is all powerful!

Out again. But our protagonist is not giving up. He has more fluid, and taking his t-shirt off, the pace to keep the flames alive becomes a frenzy. More fluid. He fans. Re-lights. Squirts more fluid.

I am chatting online and giving play by play. How is this guy not on fire? It says right on the bottle not to squirt on an open flame. We have all seen 'Caught on Tape' and know what happens.

This goes on for a good 15 minutes or so. And they enjoyed BBQ. I am still sitting in disbelief at how the odds were beaten. They did offer me a hamburger. Not bad for a consolation..

Finally...

I just got to see a movie that beat expectations. Batman Begins. Christopher Nolan did a brilliant job writing and directing what I view as the best of Batman on the big screen. It is about time the real darkness of the Batman has come across, and Christian Bale pulled it off.

Now I hope the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory can do the same...

I woke up with a handstamp on my face...

Have you ever had that happen? I slept on the hand that was stamped for the show the Parish last night. And it transferred onto the face. Only me...

I did a photostory of last night, with the picture below this as the beginning. All I know is that Sparks is now the official pre-drink of the Summer of 2005.

Cary Brothers.. An amazing up and comer...

All of us and Cary Brothers.. I think we were shooting shots of chilled Jack Daniels.. Why? Why?

Aqualung... Amazing...

My goofy friend Jill. She can't take a normal picture...

I think at this point Julia and I have done enough shots...
