The Trailer at Gibson Bar's Blogger/Media Happy Hour

The Trailer at The Giboson Bar had a sampling of some of the wonderful
creations you can get there.

The "Buenos Dias" dog with a FRIED EGG ON IT! The "Loaded Baked
Potato" dog that was a personal favorite of mine and a real crowd
pleaser.

Then of course there was the "Trailer Burger" made with a Round Rock
Donut and the "Welcome to Texas Chicken Sammie".

On thing to take note also was the delicious "Dedos and Tater Sticks"
which were served with the house speciality "Trailer Sauce" (BBQ
Ranch) and the new Cousin Leroy's Mustard Mop sauce. Take note of
Cousin Leroy's here as this sauce is UNBELIVABLE.

It was a good time meeting new bloggers in town and everyone enjoyed
the wine selctions that were chosen. A personal favorite of mine was
from FAUST. A Cabernet Sauvignon that comes in half bottles. The
Gibson Bar's wine selction has a lot of great tasting wines for really
good prices. This is bringing me back to South Lamar more in the last
month than in the last 2 years.

Check them both out. Great location to bring a few friends to have
happy hour or dinner.

Learning Locomotion Phase III - CMU Robotics Institute

This just fascinates me. What is awesome is how it corrects itself for
terrain and negotiates the optimal footholds. Can you imagine vehicles
able to transport over rough terrain? Search & Rescue equipment and
personnel no longer being limited on reaching survivors? This is
simply amazing.

Five reasons I’m NOT quitting Facebook by Peter Shankman

This week’s topic-du-jour-that’s-not-about-Lindsay-and-her-alcohol-classes seems to be about quitting Facebook, and how Mark Zuckerberg is, depending on who you talk to, the Devil, the Antichrist, or both. Even Calacanis jumped into the fray this morning with a post that made some good points.

Now, first off – understand – I’m not saying Zuck is right, or even a nice person. Quite frankly, someone needs to give him some CEO lessons really freaking quickly. But I believe that the uproar over quitting Facebook due to privacy concerns is overblown, and those quitting might come to regret it. Here’s why.

The Renegade Craft Fair at the Palmer Event Center. Bring the wallet.

Nothing says Austin more than a craft fair. This one has vendors from
across the country. Don't expect it to be thrifty as the quality is
top notch with prices to match. You will find some bargains and some
great items you won't see anywhere else. Check it out this weekend!

Who makes great burgers? Your mom. No really..

This morning after meeting up with an old neighbor we decided to check
out a place he had been before and said was worth the trip. "Your
Mom's" Burger Bar on the East side of Austin is just that. Worth it.
Similiar to Torchy's Tacos with heir catchy names you can order
burgers like the Chi Cheng(pictured), Norma Jean, and the Willie
Nelson just to name a few.

I had the Chi Cheng which was delicious. Stuffed with cheese and
jalapenos, topped with teriyaki, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and
wontons this burger was amazing. After one bite be ready for the
cheese as it can end up in your lap if you're not careful! They have
delicious hand cut fires and a variety of other sides to go with your
burger like "Elvis" fried pickles and "OH!!" Rings. For first time
visitors they give you fries for free. Grab a Mexican Coke to wash
down that delicious burger(said in a Samuel L. Jackson way).

I can't wait to take someone here for their first time. Check it out soon!

Wowee One Gel Speaker - Scobelizer Video

This seems pretty awesome. On a side-note I wonder how many people still don't know how the iPad case works. Tuck the flap BEHIND the iPad people. (You will see what I am talking about about 2/3rds through... Great sounding speaker though and portable!

Greyson Chance's Ellen appearance has created word of mouth by the millions!

I took this screenshot on the iPad of the videos Greyson Chance
(Greyson97) has posted on YouTube. Almost 8.5 million. Most of that is
today. That is incredible. I think it would be amazing if they used
his song "Stars" on the American Idol finale.

What ever happened to “Please” and “Thank you?” by Peter Shankman (@skydiver)

Thanks to my assistant being on vacation, I managed to show up at the airport five hours early for my flight this morning. With time to kill, I started walking around, and came across a Wendy’s. Knowing my burger chain trivia, I knew that Wendy’s serves burgers at any time of the day, even at 5:20am.

It's not fast food! It's an airport!

The Airport Wendy's of Burgerdom

Ordering a single, as opposed to a triple, out of courtesy to my nutritionist, I waited for my order, and watched the three people after me order. Here’s what was said:

“Gimmie a #2 with a Large Coke.”

“You got any biscuits? Yeah? Gimmie 2.”

“Large coffee, one egg and cheese.”

What’s missing from all three transactions?

Manners.

When did we blatantly lose all our manners? When did we become, essentially, cavemen and women, grunting our requests and not even recognizing the efforts of those who grant them? It’s a sad, sad day for manners.

As I look around the airport, I see it everywhere – At gate D2, there’s a mad rush to get on the plane, as if you miss the first five minute boarding window, you won’t ever board again. And we know what causes this – The rush for overhead space, with every idiot bringing on as much as they possibly can in a carry-on that’s too big to begin with.

The person standing dead-center-middle of the moving sidewalk, so no one can pass him on either side. Perhaps we just didn’t know it was his moving sidewalk, not everyone’s.

The funny thing is, society’s lack of manners can actually benefit those who still have them in countless ways. I’ve gotten more flight upgrades than I can count, simply by being the really nice guy on line behind the douchebag. When he leaves, I greet the agent with a knowing “sorry you had to deal with that” smile, say “please” and “thank you,” and boom, I’m in seat 1A.

I was exiting an elevator yesterday, and allowed the woman next to me to exit first. As she walked out and said “thank you,” I said, “you’re welcome, Marianne.” I had looked at her name tag as she was exiting.

She came up to me at the end of my speech and said “You know, I just have to tell you, you’re the first person to call my by my actual name all day! That was so thoughtful!”

Why do we wear name tags at conferences if we don’t plan on calling people by their names?

People blame our lack of manners on our “rushed” society, where we’re constantly looking down at our Blackberries and iPhones, and not communicating. When it comes down to it, though, I think we’ve just stopped caring. And that’s kinda sad.

We’ve turned into an “I’ll get mine,” society, where we only seem to care about ourselves. And strictly speaking from a business perspective, is a guaranteed way to go bankrupt. It’s common knowledge that acting different than everyone else is a good way to get noticed. So here’s my challenge to you:

Go out of your way today to use good manners to a customer or client, someone serving you, and a friend. Watch the reaction. Then do it again tomorrow. Try it for a week or two. You’ll be amazed. You’ll see differences in your business, as well.

Sometimes, it really is the simplest of things, you know?

Thanks for reading.

Completely guilty of this. The need for myself to change this is now a top priority. Maybe a few days practicing "Please" and "Thank You" in the mirror wil do me some good.
